Amy Brown-Coleman's purpose is to clean this place up! There are too many materials that end up in the landfill. it's a waste of space, it's a waste of energy, and we can do better!
One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.
Amy Brown-Coleman has been keeping unwanted items out of landfills for over 30 years, thanks in big part to her Grandmother Ada Brown, AKA Granny Brown.
Amy’s earliest memories of turning Trash into Treasure were at the age of 8 or 9, when the lace trim was tearing off her doll’s blanket. The blanket had become very tattered around the edges. Amy was sure it was time to toss the blanket, but Granny Brown had a different idea.
Granny said, “yes, the lace is old...it will need to come off. The blanket edges will need to be trimmed too, but I will show you how to sew and we can turn the rest of the material into something wonderful again!” Amy sat, entranced, watching her grandmother work, learning the tricks of the trade and together they turned an old doll blanket into a brand new handbag.
This was just the beginning for Amy Brown-Coleman, from that day forward, Amy could often see beauty and potential in things that others might cast away. Amy is a rescuer of things, she brings new life to the old and worn. She is a true artist.
